Shopping in UNESCO Heritage Listed Corfu Town

1 1

Corfu town, especially for its oldest part, is one of the most charming and romantic places of all of Greece. With its ancient Venetian and Byzantine art and architecture it will fascinate you with its little cobblestone streets lined on both sides by delightful hole-in-the-wall specialty shops and some of the best fashion houses in Europe as well as some fabulous local designers, e.g. Salty Bag, an innovative Greek upcycling business which creates handmade handbags and practical pieces like luggage.

To name just a few of the stores, Petretin is a high-end boutique that combines timeless simplicity with contemporary edge, Okazion has everything from clothes, shoes, bags, accessories to casual wear carrying labels including Brokers, Ugg, Pepe Jeans, Gstar and Lumberjack. Benetton needs no introduction as does Mezzo Mezzo or Sasha’s.

Corfu offers a large variety of shops. Down the cobbled streets and alleyways you can find everything from a small gift and souvenir shop to a boutique with exclusive Italian designer clothes. There are many interesting shops in between, specializing in leather goods, olive wood wares, Ionian ceramics, jewellery, gold, silver, handmade soaps, local liqueurs and even fur coats. Probably the most unusual is the amount of hand-woven carpets, tablecloths, napkins, skirts and blouses of lace and cotton which are available in Corfu town.

When one is shopped-out there are numerous tavernas and pubs where one can savour local Greek cuisine or locally brewed Corfiot beer, i.e. ‘Diver’ and ‘Corfu’ beer.
