Chalikounas is a huge sandy beach that separates the lake from the sea with a background of amazing alternations of the green landscape, the intense blue of the lake and the sparkling, myriad colours of the sea that spreads at one’s feet.
Due to its large size, it is difficult to explore the area in one visit, so you will always return to see something more!

Chalikounas is a beach ideal for those who love the unspoilt, natural landscape and nature which has so endowed it.
Many people choose Chalikounas for the opportunity it provides for kite surfing or windsurfing, for which it usually has favourable weather conditions as it is usually windy. Environmental walks and other sports activities are often organized in the wider area.
Lake Korission
Lake Korission is part of Chalikounas and is the largest lake on the island. It is an important wetland; a pole of attraction for 126 different species of birds, such as ducks, flamingos, cormorants, hammers and also countless stunning butterflies.
The approximately 6,000-hectare area of the Lake, protected by the Natura Treaty, includes coastal areas, the famous Ammothines (the sand dunes) that reach up to 15 metres in height and the special beauty of Kedrodassos which means “forest of cedars”.
To add to your experience of this amazing lagoon there are the beautiful white lilies that are scattered in places and the 14 magnificent, different species of orchids which are sure to thrill botanists and all alike.
