Exhibition Announcement – “Our Universe Is Not Locally Real”

The Municipal Art Gallery of Central Corfu & the Ionian Islands presents the first joint exhibition of paintings by Panagiota Kapela and Maria Krigka. The exhibition will take place in the “Thanos Christou” Art Hall from October 13th to November 13th, 2023.

These two artists, with different influences, come together and express themselves through the same materials. Taking inspiration from quantum theory, they have chosen the title “Our Universe Is Not Locally Real,” suggesting that reality is not limited to a single point but is a multi-dimensional web of possibilities and interpretations.

Maria-Ilia Katsaridou, Curator and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Sound and Image Arts of the Ionian University, writes about this collaboration: “A unique form of magic appears in their co-created works. The precise architectural forms of Krigka find fluid counterparts in Kapela’s spontaneous gestures. These joint works, sometimes starting from one artist and sometimes from the other, become liminal spaces where individual memories mix in a collective narrative, inviting us to add our own layers to the complex fabric of their memory and experience.”
