“Transitional Places” Exploring the Cultural Crossroads of Greek Borders: Northern Evros, Gavdos, Kastellorizo, Othonoi

The exhibition is a photographic journey to the four geographic extremities of Greece, focusing on the villages of Trigono in Northern Evros, Gavdos, Kastellorizo, and Othonoi.

Haris Kakarouchas, Fotini Linardou, Anna Paraskevoudi, and Simeon Chatzilidis capture with their personal perspective the human geography of the borders and the diversity of cultures encountered in these borderland regions of our country. In Northern Evros, Haris Kakarouchas and Fotini Linardou document the Trigono area, marked by conflicts, displacements, and recent refugee flows. In Gavdos, Anna Paraskevoudi and Simeon Chatzilidis trace the memories and generational roots of its inhabitants. In Kastellorizo, Haris Kakarouchas focuses on the island’s rich maritime heritage and strategic position. Finally, Anna Paraskevoudi and Simeon Chatzilidis photograph Othonoi, revealing the island’s rich history and cultural heritage.

This photographic journey aims to understand our identity and realize the complex relationships that shape the border regions.

The exhibition is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and is a collaboration between AMKE Art Traces and Luminous Eye.
