Sep 2023“Viva George!” George Katsaros and the Old Philharmonic: Old Fortress, September 16, 2023
The Old Philharmonic pays a long overdue tribute on September 16, 2023. Specifically, Greece’s oldest music education institution honors one of its former students, who has rightfully emerged as an iconic music composer, saxophonist, and conductor over the decades. We are talking about the beloved George Katsaros, a former student of the Philharmonic Society of Corfu. During the challenging post-war period, starting from the ranks of the institution’s wooden wind and string instruments and further expanding his knowledge at the Athens Conservatoire, he gained well-deserved international fame as a creator of popular, musical theater, radio, and film music, as well as a musical performer.
Collaborating with giants of songwriting and the performing arts, he adorned songs, revues, cinematic and theatrical productions with his unique sounds. Simultaneously, he served as the head of key musical bodies such as the Panhellenic Music Association and the musical ensembles of the Municipality of Athens. However, he never forgot his homeland, which he has continually supported and promoted on every occasion.
The above are just indicative reasons that led to the long overdue tribute concert for the outstanding Corfiot composer and former student of the Old Philharmonic, which will take place on September 16, 2023, at the Old Fortress. This event will exclusively feature works by George Katsaros and is characterized by a grand, unmistakably Corfiot mobilization. Specifically, the event will include performances by the Philharmonic’s band and Corfu’s “Great Lady of Greek Song” Kleo Denardou, along with Agathi Koskina, Christina Ralli, and Pantelis Kontos on vocals. Additionally, the male choir of the Corfu Male Choir, the Municipal Choir “Dimodokos,” and the Windmill Choir “Thomas Flaggines” will participate. The children’s choirs of Acharavi, Afra, and “The Smile of Mon Repo” will also be involved. Furthermore, the mandolin ensemble of the Corfu Music School, as well as Giannis Kourkoulos (piano) and Nikos Anthi (narration), will participate.
The tribute concert in honor of George Katsaros on September 16, 2023, at the Old Fortress will commence at 20:30. Tickets: 10 Euros (General Admission) and 5 Euros (unemployed, students, and disabled individuals). Pre-sale via ticketbox.gr.
