Red Sky. Before Time | After Time.

The iconic monologue “Red Sky” by Lula Anagnostaki, directed and dramaturgically adapted by Eleni Parginou, comes to the Studio of the Municipal Theater of Corfu on April 19 & 20, 2024.

The famous anti-heroine of Lula Anagnostaki meets a modern version of herself. Eleni Parginou “dives” into the story of the protagonist, Sophia Apostolou, and brings her to life on stage with her own perspective.

The performance draws inspiration from the literary universe of Lula Anagnostaki and, using new means, narrates the story of Sophia Apostolou, the heroine of the eponymous work, who balances artistically on the author’s interstitial poles. Sophia Apostolou seems to oscillate between the collective and the personal, the private and the public, expectation and despair, between a past and a present, a continuous inside-outside where one affects the essence of the other. A symbol of a personal/collective wound trying to find its sequence in an ambiguous present.

Director’s Note: In the play “Red Sky” we meet one of Lula Anagnostaki’s (anti) heroines, Sophia Apostolou. In the story of the heroine, we recognize personal frustration as well as collective denial. Rejecting a world that has first rejected her, Sophia Apostolou, through the story of her son’s social deviation, raises the flag of an outcast who places himself outside the “healthy” and “well-meaning” society. In this “outside,” the heroine will recognize her own nature, her own “inclination to evil,” and this “outside” will ultimately become the voice of her own revolution. The mnemonic process of the heroine, in our performance, acquires the function of a broken mirror that reflects her own story inverted and fragmentary.
