The established concert of the Old Philharmonic on April 27, 2024, showcases many Corfiot achievements.

As every year, the band of the Old Philharmonic sets the musical tone for the Easter concerts of the city’s philharmonic societies with the long-established Lazarus Saturday concert on April 27, 2024.

The concert will take place at the Municipal Theater of Corfu and once again features the presentation of works heard for the first time in Corfu. The soloist of the evening will be the exceptional pianist Aphrodite Kogevinas (who also has longstanding family ties with the Old Philharmonic), performing the first part of Tchaikovsky’s famous “Piano Concerto” in a transcription for band. Also featured will be the fourth part of the same composer’s “Symphony No. 5.” For the first time, the famous “Ride of the Valkyries” from Wagner’s opera “Die Walküre” will be heard, as well as the biblical-themed symphonic poem for wind orchestra “Moses and Ramses” by Japanese composer Satoshi Yagisawa, offering another original work for band. The customary concert will also feature works by the Old Philharmonic’s chief musician Petros Karavanas and arrangements of compositions by Beethoven, Hérold, and Khachaturian.

The established concert of the Old Philharmonic on Lazarus Saturday at the Municipal Theater will start promptly at 20:30 and will have free admission.
