This Holy Monastery, at an altitude of 152 meters, is located west of Pelekas and south of Vatos village, just beyond the west coast beach of Myrtidiotissa, Corfu.
Nestled between tall pines and lush olive trees, with a stunningly beautiful view of the imposing mountain to one side and the azure sea on the other, not only the natural surrounding beauty but also the peace, tranquility and serenity of the Monastery, will impress even the most discerning visitor.
The monk, Daniel, who lives in In the Holy Monastery of Y.Th. Myrtidiotissa, is responsible for the maintenance of the buildings, keeping the monastery premises functional and he also takes care of the animal husbandry.
The monastery’s purpose, as he says himself, is to offer the ordinary visitor as well as the pilgrim the feeling of peace and love, a memory strongly engraved and held in the depths of their heart, that will remain with them for years to come.
The Monastery celebrates every year on September 24.
Although it is often called the Monastery of Myrtiotissa, it was officially named the Holy Monastery of Panagia Myrtidiotissa or the Holy Monastery of Myrtidis, after the icon of the Virgin Mary that was found at this point by the monk, Daniel Kangelaris.
Visitors to the Monastery, especially in the summer months, are countless. There is also an official website with plenty of information about the Monastery, mirtidiotissa.com.
Visitors will not only see how impressively beautiful this part of the island is, but also how neat and well-maintained the Monastery is, all year round, through the daily struggle and arduous efforts of this dedicated monk, Daniel.
