Situated next to the Lake Korission, with endless sand and its famous sand dunes, the beach of Issos is blessed in every way. Behind the dunes, the abundant flora separates the shore from the protected Korission wetland.
As with the neighbouring beach of Halikouna (Chalikounas), the strong winds make it ideal for Kite and Wind Surfing.
On the beach of Issos you will not find special infrastructure, but this is what makes it stand out. There are sunbeds onthe one part of this long, golden beach but it has not been spoilt by development. It is relatively isolated so is also not jam-packed.
The plants and animals that live here have adapted and survive in conditions of intense salinity and scanty water.
The famous dunes
Issos Sand Dunes
The rocky sand dunes are a natural barrier that protects the hinterland from tides, big waves and strong winds. The sand dunes are divided into newer ones with an altitude of up to 12 metres and ones from the Pleistocene period, i.e. 10,000 years ago, that have an altitude of up to 15 metres.
The plants and animals that live here have adapted and survive in conditions of intense salinity and scanty water.
After relaxing in its waters, we totally suggest you to climb one of the dunes and watch an enchanting west coast sunset.
