Surrounded by the lush foliage of the olive trees, the scattered palm trees and the various shades of the beautiful bougainvillea, wherever you look there are things to discover.

Old mansions and alleys lead to the central square of Kouramades, which is also called “Foro” where for decades the gatherings of the inhabitants, the celebrations and the local events have taken place.

It is said that the first inhabitants of the village were builders of church bells, the Founders that settled in the village in 1500.

Many historical testimonies indicate that there was a desire for the village to be the seat of a diocese in the Despotate of Epirus in the middle of the 13th century. The name of the village comes from the fruits of the plant “kouramo” in combination with the suffix ‘ades’ that we observe in several villages of Corfu, such as the nearby village of Sinarades.

Like all the villages of the island, the temples and churches are of paramount importance for the inhabitants, which attract the intense interest of visitors to Corfu. On the way to the village of Kouramades there is a small church, dedicated to Agios Panteleimon, which dates back to the end of the 15th century.

Worth mentioning, however, is one of the newest monasteries of Corfu, which is built on a small hill with cypresses and pines, the Monastery of Agia Kyriaki of Kouramades village.

Within walking distance from the village of Kouramades are the quaint villages of Kastellani, Kalafationes and Sinarades.
