    18th Festival of Audiovisual Arts in Corfu

    The Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University is pleased to announce the opening of the 18th Festival of Audiovisual Arts, which will take place in Corfu from Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 18, 2025. The festival is one of the most significant institutions in the field of contemporary audiovisual arts, bringing together creators, researchers, and students from Greece and abroad.

    The Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University is pleased to announce the opening of the 18th Festival of Audiovisual Arts, which will take place in Corfu from Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 18, 2025. The festival is one of the most significant institutions in the field of contemporary audiovisual arts, bringing together creators, researchers, and students from Greece and abroad.

    For the past 20 years, the Festival of Audiovisual Arts has been organized by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, in collaboration with the ERHMEE Laboratory – Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, showcasing contemporary trends in sound and visual art. This year’s program includes a wide range of artistic activities in the fields of Visual, Sound, Performing, and Interactive Arts, offering a multifaceted experience to the public. It also hosts a series of exhibitions, screenings, performances, and events with guest artists who highlight the dynamic intersection of contemporary art with digital and sound media.

     

    Central Exhibition

    The Central Exhibition features the artist Pari Antoniou at the “Thanos Christou” Hall of the Corfu Art Gallery from May 8 to 18. The exhibition presents a body of work focusing on the transformation of memory and materiality through mixed media and digital composition techniques.

     

    Sunday, May 11 – At the Bank of Greece building, audiovisual and interactive works will be presented by the “Digital Art Forms” Program of the Athens School of Fine Arts. These works showcase student and alumni research on sound, image, and interaction technologies. Artistic Director: Angelos Floros, Assistant Professor, Department of Audio & Visual Arts.

     

    Monday, May 12 – At the “Polytechno” multipurpose venue, undergraduate students of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts will present their own performances. Artistic Supervisor: Christina Mitsani, Special Teaching Staff, Department of Audio & Visual Arts.

     

    Wednesday to Friday, May 14–16 at 8:00 PM – Screenings of moving image works created by students of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts (2024–2025) will take place at the “Polytechno” venue. Academic Supervisor: Daphne Dragona, Academic Fellow, Department of Audio & Visual Arts.

     

    Wednesday, May 14 at 8:00 PM At the Ionian Parliament, the digital audiovisual performance “É(d)ros and Eleni,” based on traditional rituals, will be presented. Original concept by Panagiotis Sdoukos, artist-performer. Academic Supervision: Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor, Department of Audio & Visual Arts, and Scientific Collaborator of ERT.

     

    Thursday, May 15 at 7:30 PM – At ERT Corfu, the book “Sound of Radio” by ERT’s award-winning sound engineer, Spyros Kavakopoulos, will be presented. Academic Supervision: Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor, Department of Audio & Visual Arts and Scientific Collaborator of ERT.

     

    Friday, May 16 at 9:30 PM – At the university campus (former psychiatric hospital), the event “Radio Theater under the Stars” will take place. This sound performance, now in its third year, features student-created radio artworks within the course “Music and Audiovisual Media: Radio and Television Music Production” (Spring 2025). The event is part of the project “The University Goes to ERT”, under the cooperation agreement between the Ionian University and ERT S.A. Academic Supervision: Renata Dalianoudi.

     

    Saturday, May 17 at 8:00 PM – In the ceremonial hall of the Ionian Academy, distinguished Italian composer Lelio Camilleri will present a live concert, offering a unique experience of electroacoustic composition with emphasis on spatial sound and live mixing.

     

    Visual Arts Program Exhibitions:

     

    AVARTS: Presentation of student works from the undergraduate program of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts.

     

    Graduates’ Exhibition: Featuring works that mark the transition from study to artistic practice.

     

    Postgraduate Exhibition “Arts in the Digital Era”: Showcasing research and creative approaches in art and technology.

     

    As part of the Festival, the 7th International DCAC Conference (Digital Cultures and Audiovisual Challenges) titled “Interdisciplinary Creativity in Arts and Technology” will be held on May 9–10 at the Ionian Academy, featuring academic presentations and lectures by esteemed scholars and professionals.

     

    AV School Educational Activities – “Crossroads”: From May 12 to 16, specialized workshops and seminars will be offered at the Corfu Public Central Library for students and professionals, strengthening the link between theory and practice in audiovisual arts.

     

    The festival is also enriched by collaborations with local artistic and cultural groups such as the ICONA Festival, the Peloponnisos International Documentary Festival, the AVARTS Theater group, the AVARTS Game Hub creative community (focused on game design and development), the “LogOTechni” literary club, and other independent initiatives. These collaborations highlight the diverse and evolving potential of the local scene, presenting a polyphonic canvas of artistic forms and technological innovation, promoting creativity, experimentation, and academic production.

     

    The Festival continues to expand its reach, offering an ideal meeting point for the artistic and academic community through transmedia events, educational initiatives, and scholarly conferences. With a dynamic program that showcases contemporary audiovisual creativity, the Festival of Audiovisual Arts remains a key institution for research, education, and innovation in the arts.
