The horses are back!
The AlogoStrata Trail returns with 8km and 18km races, plus food, drinks, and music at the start/finish area in Agios Markos.
The race follows ancient trade paths used by mountain villagers to transport goods to the sea and Corfu Town.
Its name comes from the historical downhill section of the route – AlogoStrata, meaning “horse path” in Greek. Forgotten and overgrown since the 1930s, a first attempt to rediscover it in 2016 was unsuccessful. However, in 2019, three friends reopened it, and it has since become a favorite for runners and hikers.
The AlogoStrata is now a beloved yet challenging route, finally part of an official trail race.
The start and finish are in Agios Markos village, featuring two main races:
A short yet demanding route with steep ascents on the Liskiá trail. After reaching the top, runners loop around the Spartylas Lake, passing the abandoned Agios Nikolaos church before heading to AlogoStrata for a fast downhill with stunning views.
Combining local favorites, this route includes Liskiá, the Orchid Trail near Spartylas Lake, the enchanted trail along Zygos Creek to Sokraki, the Hunters’ Path, and the AlogoStrata downhill finish.
A new addition for young runners!
Online registration is open until Sunday, February 2, 2025, at www.alogostratatrail.gr.
Last-minute sign-ups: Sunday, February 9, 9:30-10:00 AM, at the starting point (Agios Markos football field).
