It is said that as soon as Arthur Rimbaud was born, the nurse placed him for a moment on a large pillow to bring his swaddling clothes. When she returned, however, she saw that the little creature was no longer in place but already crawling towards the door, searching for new adventures and wanderings…
“Some say, of course, that this story was probably invented by him…” – A.M.
Arthur Rimbaud, or the child prodigy as he was called, was only 17 years old when he began writing and is considered the first unconventional poet of France at that time. A contrast like the sun with the darkness, a demon with a child’s smile and wild eyes, as Verlaine described him. His writing was chaotic, anarchic, written on the go, and completely spontaneous, just like his character.
He often got into fights, and drunk, he would lash out at his lover. However, these excesses often led him to an even wilder life full of tensions.
This performance is based on Rimbaud’s true biography and has no relation to fictional stories created by the director. It is an artistic view of what we call modern poetry, as it could be interpreted today, always in line with the creator’s perspective.
“If Rimbaud were alive today, this is probably how he would want his poems to be portrayed today.” – A.M.
Behind every poem, song, film, play, behind every artist, there is an everyday person like us. With passions, mistakes, and situations that lead them to the need for expression and the revelation of their work, which often hides personal experiences.
The performance focuses on the personal reasons why Arthur instinctively wrote his poems, and one way to better understand him is to listen to the tone of the letters he exchanged frequently with his lover, inspiring him to create the collection titled:
“A Season in Hell.”
The performance is a musical-poetic one with a narrative character.
“Poetry requires distance, but most of Rimbaud’s poems seem like monologues and should be portrayed with an appropriate resonance in the speech and proper coloring due to his unique spontaneous writing.” – A.M.
As a child, Arthur Rimbaud abandoned poetry, while his writings were recognized ten years later and remain timeless, as they are still mentally, emotionally, and psychologically connected to people who have experienced complex relationships, significant losses, marginalization, romantic journeys, intense passions, and events that changed their lives forever.
“His most romantic line is this, I quote it verbatim: ‘Do you want me to die in your arms?'” – A.M.
