The Art Gallery of the Municipality of Central Corfu & the Diapontian Islands and the Cultural Association “Friends of the School of Corfu Prison” are organizing the group art exhibition “Conversations with Prometheus,” alongside the presentation of the 2025 Calendar of the Association.

The annual Calendar is one of the initiatives aimed at raising awareness and providing social support for the sensitive and valuable community project of prisoner education.

For 2025, the generous participation of 11 visual artists who live and work in Corfu, their spontaneous response, and the sensitivity with which they approached the theme, confirm these efforts. Drawing inspiration from the conversations between the inmates-students of the Second Chance School of Corfu Prison and Aeschylus’ work “Prometheus Bound,” which they studied, in an attempt to connect language-text-image, they created works featured in the 11 months of the Calendar.

The 12th work belongs to the students themselves, who were inspired by the theatrical group activity created during the 2023-2024 school year and the theater-pedagogical process, as well as the selection of the play “Prometheus Bound,” which created a partly new theatrical dialogue titled “Conversations with Prometheus,” using Documentary Theater and Theater of Invention/Collaborative Creation techniques.

From the very beginning of the 2025 Calendar’s design, it became clear that the effort and the thinking behind it needed to be made visible to the public. Therefore, from December 18, 2024, to January 11, 2025, 42 works of painting, printmaking, collage, digital prints, and drawings will tell the “conversation” with Prometheus in the Art Hall “Thanos Christou,” giving visitors images that become the voice of the students of the School to the outside world.

The artists participating in the exhibition and calendar, in alphabetical order, are:

Pinelopi Voltera, Greta Capelmans, Nikos Kokkalis, Natasha Maneta, Dimitris Miliotis, Aspa Mikalev, Georgia Monastirioti, Aspasia Sigourakou, Petros Stravoravdis, Kostas Tompros, Tina Haviara-Metallinou.

The exhibition is curated by Marina Papasotiropoulou, Curator of the National Gallery – Corfu Branch.

    Duration: December 18, 2024 – January 11, 2025 / Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 – 14:00.
