IN CORFU AT THE STUDIO OF THE MUNICIPAL THEATER

SATURDAY 19 AND SUNDAY 20 OCTOBER AT 21:00

    DIRECTOR: GIORGOS ARMENIS
PERFORMERS: GIORGOS ARMENIS & KATERINA ANTONIADOU

The theatrical play “Dance with Me, Father” by Katerina Antoniadou will be performed in Corfu, at the Studio of the Municipal Theater, for two performances.

A few words about the play:

A father with dementia and his hysterical daughter try in vain to communicate. Each, within their own disorder, is internally struggling, searching for personal redemption.

The daughter has fully dedicated herself to her father. She visits him daily, cares for him, and bears complete responsibility for him. She has completely sidelined her own life. This day, which unfolds, is also the day of the father’s outburst. He doesn’t recognize her. Clinging to a stopped clock, he is trapped in repetitive patterns, stubbornly denying reality. He denies his children, denies the job he served, denies his inability to take care of himself.

Despite the hysterical pressures from his daughter, he seems to constantly evade reality — or at least, that’s what the confused mind of the daughter thinks.

Unable to connect with the new reality herself, she becomes lost. No longer capable of managing her long-ruined relationship with her father, but mainly her relationship with herself, she becomes confused. Confused and accusatory, she reaches the point of questioning her father’s dementia, terrorizing him and shouting, “I don’t believe you! This is just a game you’re playing!” Always from the position of the victim, clinging to her past, intertwined with her father, she reminisces, triggering wild memories, dragging him into a violent dance of sensations and delusions.

Communication is a lost cause. Understanding, from both sides, is non-existent, and each character’s ego is so big that it leaves no room for them to see beyond their own noses. Dementia and hysteria advance, tightly bound together, in sick steps — some stumbling to the left, others to the right.

There is no destination. They both go wherever the wind blows. An afternoon. A delirious day, where each successive day follows the previous, with nothing changing.

Always with a touch of humor, always with a laugh, always with a tearful smile, one afternoon, father and daughter meet and look at each other with closed eyelids.
