Tree Planting in North Corfu – March 30, 2025

The AHEPA Corfu Chapter, in collaboration with the Municipality of North Corfu, is taking immediate action to restore the island’s natural environment after the wildfires in its northern part. A large-scale reforestation event will take place on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

After continuous meetings with the Mayor of North Corfu, Mr. Georgios Machimaris, and representatives from the Forestry Service, including Ms. Kritikos Zaira Aikaterini (Head of Forestry) and Ms. Papaioannou Maria (Forester), all bureaucratic procedures for the reforestation were completed. A 30-acre area has been designated for the event, marking the second phase of reforestation.

The first phase took place in April 2024, with 1,000 trees planted in the “Anapavtiria” area of Loutses, contributing to the prevention of natural disasters caused by heavy rainfall. In this second phase, 800 more trees will be planted in the “Podolakos” area, the site of the former landfill of Kassiopi (Municipality of North Corfu).

The meeting point for all participants—local authorities, students, organizations, and volunteers from across the island—is at 10:00 a.m. at the Kassiopi football field. From there, the group will proceed to the designated reforestation area.

We extend our gratitude to Mr. Efstathios Theodorakis, director of the Costa Botanica Hotel, and the CRECOTEL Hotels & Resorts Group for their crucial support in this initiative.
