Vicky Stylianou (1959-2024): Two Memorial Concerts by the Old Philharmonic (March 8 & 9, 2025)

The Corfu Philharmonic Society, honoring the memory of the distinguished artist and collaborator of the institution, Vicky Stylianou (1959-2024), is organizing two special concerts on March 8 and March 9, 2025.

On March 8, 2025, conductor Alkis Baltas, life partner of the late artist, will lead the Symphony Orchestra of the Old Philharmonic in selected works (Massenet, Elgar, Morricone, Grieg, etc.) that Vicky Stylianou loved and arranged. The concert will take place at the Municipal Theater of Corfu, starting at 8:30 PM.
    Soloist: Iwona Glinka (flute).

The second concert, on March 9, 2025, will focus on chamber music, featuring an exceptional trio of renowned musicians: Angelοs Politis (clarinet) and Giorgos Farougias (bassoon), both from Corfu, along with Chrysa Grenda (piano). They will perform pieces from the classical repertoire (Ravel, Grieg, Buzet, etc.), arranged by Vicky Stylianou, as well as compositions by Babis Kana and Alkis Baltas. This concert will be held at the Events Hall of the Old Philharmonic, starting at 7:00 PM.

Admission to both tribute concerts is free.

    About Vicky Stylianou

Vicky Stylianou was a distinguished pianist, tireless performer, arranger, and dedicated advocate of musical art. She leaves an indelible mark on the Greek music scene, excelling as an ideal interpreter of Greek composers—many of whose works she premiered and recorded. She was also an active member of key musical ensembles in Greece, while remaining a modest and gentle personality, always letting her work speak for itself.

Born in Athens, she displayed exceptional talent from an early age. She graduated from the Athens Conservatory and furthered her studies in France and Switzerland. With an extensive concert career across Europe and Greece, she collaborated with prestigious ensembles and leading international musicians, as well as nearly all major Greek orchestras, always standing out for her unmatched musicality in a repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary compositions.

She was one of the founding members of Manos Hadjidakis’ legendary “Orchestra of Colors”, a member of Theodoros Antoniou’s Greek Contemporary Music Ensemble, and part of the Athens Trio. The Old Philharmonic had the privilege of collaborating with Vicky Stylianou in numerous symphony orchestra concerts and productions (such as the revival of the opera “The Candidate” in 2017), greatly benefiting from her gracious presence and boundless musical talent.
