Educational Activities for the School Year 2023-2024

The Public Central Historical Library, as part of its program of activities aimed at school communities, informs the teachers of Primary and Secondary Education about the conduct of the following educational programs, which, this year, have as a common component the acquaintance with Local History:

1. ‘The Knights of Freedom’: Kindergarten, 1st – 2nd Primary School (Duration 60 minutes) Interactive reading program, based on the book by author Konstantina Armeniakou: ‘The Knights of Freedom’, published by Metaichmio. Day and time of program execution: Thursday 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM.
2. ‘The Journey to Ithaca’: 3rd – 4th Primary School (Duration 60 minutes) Interactive program introducing students to the adventures of Odysseus and Greek mythology. Students get to know the exciting journey of Odysseus through games in the most entertaining way. Day and time of program execution: Thursday 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM.
3. ‘From Gate to Gate’: 5th – 6th Primary School (Duration 60 minutes) Students get to know the history of the four gates that allowed communication between the city of Corfu and the sea and the suburbs in a playful way. The program is accompanied by audiovisual material. Day and time of program execution: Thursday 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM and 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM.
4. ‘Korfiatikoi Stories’: Junior High – High School (Duration 90 minutes) An experiential program-dedication to the Corfiot writer Konstantinos Theotokis on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death. Through Theotokis’ last four works, students come into contact with the atmosphere of another era and participate in the completion of a mission through the search for selected literary books. The program is accompanied by audiovisual material. Day and time of program execution: Tuesday 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

In addition, a program on the theme ‘Introduction to New Technologies’ will be held for Junior High School (Duration 90 minutes). ‘Interactive Workshop on Artificial Intelligence, Challenges, and Modern Applications’: An introduction to machine learning, artificial neural networks, and language models through gamification and discussion. The workshop takes place as part of the Corfu Tech Lab (American Space) and is aimed at junior high school students. Day and time of program execution: Tuesday 11:15 AM – 1:00 PM.

The aim of the programs is to familiarize students with the library space, enrich their knowledge in an experiential and playful way, cultivate their love for books, and provide incentives for further exploration of selected topics. The programs start on Tuesday, October 11, 2023.
