The Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu and the Cultural Society HELIOSTASIO announce the extension of the exhibition Iason Depountis: Because of you, poetry, Troy still burns until December 31, 2024.
The exhibition, which opened in July, is dedicated to Corfiot poet Iason Depountis (1919-2008), one of the most significant figures in post-war Greek poetry. Depountis, through his multifaceted work and connections with prominent figures such as Nikolaos Ventouras and Nikiforos Vrettakos, profoundly influenced Greek literature and was distinguished for his pioneering contributions. The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to explore Depountis’ unique relationship with literature, art, and critical thought, as well as his life in Switzerland, where he served as an educator, researcher, translator, and author. Special attention is given to his later works, including collages and “metatexts” that delve into concepts of poetry and emptiness.
The exhibition is hosted in the Church of Saint George and the Flour Sheds of the Old Fortress of Corfu. Visiting hours: 08:00-18:00 (until October 31), 08:30-15:30 from November 1.
