On Wednesday, January 31, at 19:00, the retrospective exhibition of the painter Ioannis Kardiopoulos will be inaugurated in the periodical exhibition hall of the Corfu Art Gallery.

The Corfu Art Gallery, in its effort to highlight significant artists, invites you to the retrospective exhibition of the painter Ioannis Kardiopoulos (1949-1996).

Ioannis Kardiopoulos was born in 1949 in a suburb of Athens. His youth was financially challenging, leading him to take various jobs to make a living. In the 1970s, he met Corfiot Angeliki Merianou, whom he married, marking his first contact with Corfu. Visiting the island over time and enchanted by its artistic atmosphere, he decided to delve deeper into painting.

Being a self-taught artist, Kardiopoulos maintained a gallery in Kallithea, Athens, for seven years. His works primarily depict scenes from Greek mythology, the Old Testament, portraits, and still lifes. He mainly used oil on large canvases and also engaged in the technique of copper engraving.

In 1986, Kardiopoulos permanently settled in Corfu and had a painting studio in Agios Ioannis until the end of his life. He also decorated shops in various areas of the island.

His works can be found in the Corfu Art Gallery and private collections. The exhibition will run from January 31 to March 8, with visiting hours from 09:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday, at the Corfu Art Gallery, Ioannou Theotoki 77.
