“Tetrapods”
Loggos, Paxos
The group painting exhibition titled “Tetrapods” will be inaugurated on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in the hall of the “Former Primary School of Loggos.” The exhibition is part of the 38th Paxos Festival, organized in collaboration with AMKE “Friends of Paxos” and “image” publishing house, and includes works by fourteen notable contemporary artists featured in the 2024 artistic calendar-album of the publishers.
The participating artists are Dina Anastasiadou, Iolanda Anthi-Varotsi, Christos Antonaropoulos, Elena Garstea, Eirini Kana, Spyros Kolivas, Dimitris Kretsis, Tina Masha, Dimitris Miliotis, Miltos Pantelias, Marina Stellatou, Nikos Stratakis, Kostas Tompros, and Giorgos Feretos. The exhibition is organized by Elvira Metallinou, graphic designer and publisher.
Through their brushes and distinctive styles, the 14 contemporary painters, including four from Corfu, depict forms and emotions of beloved tetrapod animals. Human life is inextricably linked with that of animals. Their coexistence composes beauty through diversity—a relationship that has occupied and been recorded by scientists, philosophers, and artists through the ages. A relationship that is in no way described as “shallow or superficial,” “that” which animals have represents the vision of life.
The exhibition continues a previous one held at the Archaeological Museum of Corfu (9/12/2023 – 14/01/2024), a coexistence of centuries-old artistic creation with contemporary creators.
This exhibition also features new works. Each artist depicts their own “tetrapod” protagonist to highlight multiple aspects of its completeness: the spark in the eye, boldness, patience, flexibility, adaptation to painful situations, etc., observed in animals. There are also works where animals accompany humans, such as “The Rider” by Dimitris Miliotis and Dimitris Kretsis in an equestrian race or life’s journey, as in Marina Stellatou’s work “Who caresses whom?” Who reciprocates care… the girl to the animal or vice versa? Or Tina Masha’s work “Saint Mamas,” a transition from the mortal to the supernatural, where the fifteen-year-old protector and tamer of animals appears and floods… “paradise.”
Tetrapod animals are a silent companionship for humans. The catalog accompanying the exhibition is the 2024 calendar-album by “image” publications, “2024 Tetrapods.”
The exhibition will last from June 15 to June 30, 2024, with free admission to the public.
