31 Dec 2024In three different cultural venues, paintings by the important artist Athanasios Spiliopoulos are now permanently displayed: the Corfiot Art Gallery, the Banknote Museum of the Ionian Bank, and the Ionian University.
In his paintings, the color is simple yet impressive, requiring the careful gaze of the viewer-observer to decode the messages.
The artist noted about his work:
“In our time, the language of shapes and materials has become clearer, has gained substance, and, charged with the body of time, has given materials greater independence and strength to speak and express themselves more meaningfully, so they can tell their true story and relate it to a new creative direction in contemporary art.”
Athanasios Spiliopoulos was born in 1932 in Athens. He studied Economics at A.S.O.E.E., graphic arts at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, drawing at the London College of Printing in London, and in 1972 graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts. He held 8 solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Greece, France, and England. His paintings are found in many private and public collections in Greece, France, England, Germany, South Africa, Belgium, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
