14 Feb 2025The play is a theatrical adaptation for children, based on the work “Los Fabulistas de Cazipora” by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca.
It is an entertaining performance that promotes love over greed, collectivity and empathy over individualism, and beauty and creativity over ugliness and destruction.
Lorca wrote the story of Don Cristóbal and Rosita in 1927 for puppet theatre, which became one of his biggest successes. The plot, the style of the work, and the characters resemble those of Commedia dell’Arte.
The Mosquito narrates the love story of the young and beautiful Rosita, who is in love with the carefree and dreamy Cocoliko. However, her father wants to marry her off to the rich, old, and cruel Don Cristobita, who terrorizes the poor and weak with his club of power and inflated belly of omnipotence. Then appears Curito, a sailor who had been away at sea and loved Rosita since childhood. He returns, determined to marry her.
What will happen in the end? Who will marry the beautiful Donya Rosita? What role will the innkeeper Cloudterror, the shoemaker Timid, the barber Figaro, and the fairy play in this story?
The performance will be presented in the mornings for Corfu schools from January 29th to February 14th and on Saturdays, February 1st, 8th, and 15th, for the public at 5:30 PM at the Studio of the Municipal Theatre. For seat reservations, call 26610 40136 (Municipal and Regional Theatre of Corfu – DIPETHE) on weekdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
