Event for the 100 years since the Treaty of Lausanne at the Ionian Academy.

This year marked the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne, which shaped the modern Greek state. In commemoration of this anniversary, the AHEPA Department of Corfu and the Ionian University are organizing an event at the Ionian Academy on Wednesday, October 25th, at 19:00.

The speakers at the event will be two of the leading Greek geostrategic analysts and distinguished researchers, Konstantinos Filis and Savvas Kalenteridis, along with the Director-General of the National Foundation for Research and Studies “Eleftherios Venizelos,” Nikos Papadakis. Also participating will be the Associate Professor of the Department of History at the Ionian University, Dionysios Chourhoulis. The speakers will provide a detailed presentation of the historical aspects of the period, the facets of the treaty, the role of Eleftherios Venizelos, and information that will be presented to the public of Corfu for the first time. The event is expected to be highly informative, addressing topics such as whether the treaty can be revised, whether there are unresolved issues, and if any consideration and theoretical discussion about appealing to The Hague allows for a differentiation of the treaty’s terms. Additionally, publications from that period and rare photographic material will be presented, while the respected analysts will also refer to the latest events in Israel.

The event is curated by the Deputy Governor of AHEPA Greece and Ph.D. holder from the Ionian University, Nikos Dimitropoulos.
