“Women in the Modern Era”

Since the early 18th century, the long history of women’s demands for equality with significant international implications has emerged, along with the first labor movements that officially led, in 1977, to the establishment of International Women’s Day by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/32/142).

Therefore, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Community Center of the Municipality of South Corfu responds to the purpose and action by organizing a Scientific Conference, aiming to raise awareness and inform citizens and relevant authorities about gender equality. It’s an opportunity for reflection on the current situation, but primarily to highlight women’s roles, their contribution to society, the need for substantive protection, and respect for their rights to mental health.

For the year 2024, the World Health Organization sets “INVESTMENT” as the focal point for International Women’s Day, calling on member states and interested parties to increase their investment in women and women’s health.

The Conference will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2023, from 18:00 to 20:30 at the school unit in the Events Hall of the School Center, in a space provided free of charge. The Conference will be titled “Women in the Modern Era.”

The aim of the event is to raise awareness and inform participants about the role of women in society, to reflect on the current situation, the legal framework, and their mental health. With the goal of cultivating empathy, a culture of acceptance, education, and awareness for the realization of substantive gender equality.

The Community Center of the Municipality of South Corfu is a structure designed by the Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Social Solidarity, established in Municipalities and funded by ESPA 2021-2027. It started operating in 2017 with the aim of creating a new social protection system that provides comprehensive support through the provision of a comprehensive service package aimed at combating poverty, social exclusion, and all forms of discrimination.
