    International Festival of Mediterranean Cultures in Corfu, September 6-10.

    The Greek National Section of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts – CIOFF®, an official partner of UNESCO, the Ionian University, and the Cultural Cultural Association of Sinies Corfu, are organizing the most significant cultural event of the Mediterranean.

    The International Festival of CIOFF® Mediterranean Cultures will take place in Corfu from September 6th to 10th, 2023, with the participation of 16 countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, in a five-day live action and creation event.

    Participating music and dance groups come from Egypt, Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Greece, Spain, Israel, Italy, Croatia, Cyprus, Morocco, Montenegro, Portugal, Slovenia, and Tunisia. Over 450 dancers, musicians, artists, traditional craftsmen, university professors, and researchers will present the intangible cultural heritage of the Mediterranean, accompanied by traditional musical instruments and costumes, in a multicultural musical and dance spectacle. The event will feature performances, video mapping, exhibitions, dance and gastronomy workshops, a scientific conference, lectures, and an economic forum.

    The Festival of Mediterranean Cultures, a CIOFF® Southern Europe institution, is under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and is organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention (2003) for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

    It is organized in cooperation with the Ionian Islands Region, the Regional Union of Municipalities of the Ionian Islands, the Municipality of North Corfu, and the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands. The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, the Ministry of Tourism, the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, EOT (Greek National Tourism Organization), the Central Union of Chambers of Commerce of Greece, the Agrofood Partnership of the PIN, the Corfu Chamber of Commerce, the UNESCO Chair of the Ionian University, the Department of Sound and Image Arts, the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation, and Interpreting, the Department of Digital Media and Communication, the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology on behalf of the Ionian University, the Department of Networks and Communications of the IU, the Institute of Greek Music Heritage (IEMC), the Academy of Art in Szczecin, Poland, the Philharmonic Society of Corfu (Old), and the cultural association San Giacomo.

    The event is supported by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu, the Museum of Asian Art, the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontian Islands, the Corfu Port Authority, the Corfu Hoteliers Association, the Association of Former Scouts of Corfu, the Corfu Chefs’ Club, the Hellenic Red Cross, the Mastora Clinic, and the “Therapia” Clinic.
