    The Society for Corfiot Studies – Solomos Museum of Corfu, in collaboration with the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University and the Kostis Palamas Foundation, is co-organizing a Scientific Conference in Corfu on November 15 and 16, 2024.

    The conference, titled “Byron – Solomos – Calvos – Palamas: Intersections” (200 years since the death of Byron – 200 years since the writing of the “Hymn to Liberty” – 200 years since the publication of Andreas Calvos’ “Lyra” – 80 years since the death of Kostis Palamas – 200 years since the founding of the Ionian Academy), will be held at the Ionian Academy, with free admission.

    The conference will be accompanied by three concerts:

    • Friday, November 15, 2024, Ionian Academy, 8:00 p.m.: Concert by professors and students of the Department of Music Studies, Ionian University.
    • Saturday, November 16, 2024, Ionian Academy, 1:30 p.m.: Concert by the “San Giacomo” Municipal Choir of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands, conducted by Antony Ivanov.
    • Saturday, November 16, 2024, Corfu Philharmonic Society Hall (Old), 8:00 p.m.: Event by the Men’s Choir of Corfu, dedicated to poet Aristotelis Valaoritis, celebrating 200 years since his birth. The choir will be conducted by Dimitra Kalogeropoulou, with soloist Despina Mouratidis, and poems will be recited by Chrysa Pantsiou and Christos Louros. Biographical details of Aristotelis Valaoritis will be presented by Dimitris Konidaris, and Konstantinos Kasinis will present his paper “Byron and Valaoritis.”
