Theatrical Performance: My Friend Dostoevsky | Studio of the Municipal Theater | 12/21–12/23

Through the humorous and deeply moving writing of Dimitra Papadopoulou, the dynamic and tender direction of Kostas Gakis, the magical and human touches of Natassa Fai Kosmidou’s stage and lighting design, and the wildly emotional performance of Pavlos Loutsidis, Dostoevsky’s masterpiece The Dream of a Ridiculous Man is brought to life in a fresh and unexpected way.

    Can we, through Dostoevsky’s words:

    • Discover what we are searching for?
    • Find where truth truly resides?
    • Battle the dragon of pretentiousness?
    • Identify the purpose and meaning of our lives?
    • Forgive the “ridiculous” version of ourselves?
    • Feel light even in the darkest alleys?
    • Take a moment amidst the city’s chaos to look at the stars again?
    • Let a little girl speaking another language and believing in another God teach us how to love?
    • Celebrate every humiliation as if it were a triumph?
    • Learn how to fall in love all over again?
    • Realize that nothing separates us from others but everything unites us?
    • Love life again and honor the miracle we’ve been given?

The hero of the story managed to do all of this!
He succeeded, even after losing everything—job, money, luxury home, power, prestige, and with them, the meaning of existence.
He succeeded, even while living in a basement in Acharnae.
He succeeded by rediscovering the goodness within and around him, embracing and loving life once again.

As Dostoevsky, the “Great Master,” says:
“A person who knows how to embrace is a good person.”

    If he could do it…
    Why can’t we?
