Sep 2024On Saturday, September 28, 2024, the Corfu Museum of Asian Art will participate in the celebration of European Heritage Days with the theme “Tracing Routes, Networks, and Ties in Cultural Heritage” through the educational activity: “On the Silk Road.”
The aim of this year’s pan-European theme is to highlight cultural routes connecting monuments, historical sites, and cultural spaces. The theme focuses on both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, showcasing the bonds between communities, peoples, and cultures over time. It invites participants on a journey to explore the past through geographical routes and thematic connections.
The educational activity is aimed at children aged 9 to 12. Participants will be invited to follow “the Silk Road” through selected exhibits from the Museum’s permanent collection. During their tour, they will have the opportunity to discover the historical significance and cultural diversity of this route. Starting from distant China, they will follow the caravans of the nomads of Central Asia through a series of fun activities. The Silk Road was not merely a trade path but a primary communication channel through which philosophical and artistic movements spread between East and West. The program will conclude with a fun educational board game.
European Heritage Days are dedicated to monuments and their preservation, aiming to raise awareness among citizens about the protection of cultural heritage. Every year, on the last weekend of September, monuments, museums, and archaeological sites open their doors. Concerts, exhibitions, guided tours, educational activities, and film screenings offer visitors the chance to engage with monuments in a direct, enjoyable, and entertaining way.
On the weekend of September 28-29, 2024, as part of this year’s European Heritage Days celebration, entry to the Museum will be free to the general public.
