Ten Singers, Three Choirs, and a Remarkable Act of Humanity on the 127th Anniversary of the Gastouri Philharmonic Society of Corfu, “Omonia”
This year’s anniversary concert, dedicated to the late honorary conductor Mimi Plessas, marks the 127th anniversary of the Gastouri Philharmonic Society of Corfu, “Omonia.” The event will take place on March 27 at 20:30 at the Corfu Municipal Theatre.
Ten singers will perform the timeless songs of Mimi Plessas, the most commercially successful Greek composer in the history of Greek discography. These are songs that we have all sung and cherished, presented in an innovative collaboration between Corfiot artists and close collaborators of the legendary composer.
The performers include Spyros Kleissas, Christina Ralli, Parthena Kara, Ioanna Vlachou, Alexandros Graikos, Stamatina Karydi, Giorgos Mavromatis, Afroditi Papavaseiliou, Periklis Papadopoulos, and Pari Revythi. They will present to the audience all the greatest hits of Plessas, originally recorded by the most significant voices in Greek music history.
The concert, titled “A Sky Full of Stars,” will also feature the mixed choir of the Lyceum of Greek Women and the school choirs of the 3rd and 4th Junior High Schools of Corfu, prepared under the direction of Periklis Papadopoulos. Accompanying the singers will be an orchestra with Spyros Kontzialis on piano and Philippos Peristeris on bouzouki.
Renowned for its charitable work over the decades, “Omonia” will collaborate with the organization “Faros Zois” (Beacon of Life) to support little two-year-old Zoe. Members of the organization will be present at the theatre entrance on the night of the concert, encouraging the Corfiot audience to contribute to this noble cause.
Admission is by invitation only, available at Saltino Café (Georgiou Theotoki Street, across from Eurobank) and Courier Center (Koulines area).
The Philharmonic’s preparation has been overseen by its conductor, Spyros Rallis, with technical support provided by “Epta Technon Topos” (Land of Seven Arts). This special evening will be filled with nostalgia and entertainment, as over 70 musicians take the stage, filling the Municipal Theatre with the unforgettable melodies of Plessas.
The event is held under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy.
