Nov 2024The Philharmonic Society of Corfu is pleased to announce the concert of its band, which will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Corfu Municipal Theatre starting at 20:00, conducted by chief conductor Spyros Prosoparis.
The central theme of the concert will be music for cinema, a genre that, continuing the tradition of musical theatre, has provided fertile creative ground for numerous outstanding composers, never hiding its debt to the so-called “classical music” space. The concert will feature works from a wide range of genres and composers, from the legendary John Williams to the recently deceased Mimis Plessas.
The concert’s main soloist will be soprano Despina Mouratidis. Additionally, three talented musicians from the Old Philharmonic, who have become key members of the teaching staff, will perform as soloists: Melina Merianou (clarinet), Dimitris Aspiotis (xylophone), and Nikolas Ninos (trumpet). Through this, the Old Philharmonic continues its long-standing commitment to providing a platform for its young musicians. This was a commitment first emphasized by Nikolaos Mantzaros, who, as Artistic Director of the Old Philharmonic until his death in 1872, consistently trusted the youth of our region.
