16 Jun 2024The concerts of the Department of Music Studies will continue over the weekend of June 15 and 16, featuring the students of the Voice Class.
CORFU. With two concerts that took place in the previous days, the spring academic semester is coming to an end for the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, in anticipation of the summer examination period.
The events kicked off on the evening of Saturday, June 8, with the Brass Ensembles of the Department, in a concert held in the courtyard of the Flangini Cultural Center in Anemomylos. Specifically, the Trombone Ensemble and the Brass Ensemble, both composed of students from the Department, performed works by Gustav Holst, Clair W. Johnson, Angel Gregorio Viloldo, Ernst Thilo Kalke, Arthur Benjamin, Leonidas Raphailovits, Spyros Kaisaris, Spyros Mavropoulos, and Spyros Katsouris, under the direction of Spyros Reggis and Spyros Rouvas.
The event was co-organized by the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University and the Cultural & Environmental Association of Anemomylos.
The next concert took place on Monday, June 10, at the Ionian Academy, featuring the traditional concert of the Department of Music Studies Choir in collaboration with the Voice Class (supervised by Professor Rosa Poulimenou). The concert presented Gioachino Rossini’s iconic work “Petite Messe Solennelle” (“Little Solemn Mass”), 160 years after its premiere (in 1864 in Paris, in its original version completed the previous year).
The conductors were students of the Mixed – Professional Choir Conducting Direction (supervised by Professor Dimitris Ktistakis), including Ioanna Argyropoulou, Panagiotis Charalampidis, Penny Selalmazidou, Alkinoos Papagiannellis, Filippos Boubaras, Dora Kolitsi, and Andreas Gousis. Soloists included soprano Irina Gorbatenko, alto Elisso Davli, tenor Lefteris Kalpaktsidis, and baritone Sotiris Triantis. Accompanying them were department instructors Dimitra Kokkinopoulou and Elli Glarou on piano and harmonium, respectively.
The concerts of the Department of Music Studies will continue over the weekend of June 15 and 16, featuring the students of the Voice Class. A separate announcement will be made for these concerts.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that on June 30, the Vocal Ensemble of the Ionian University, under the direction of Dimitris Ktistakis, will depart for Serbia, where in the following days, they will participate in concerts and other academic activities as part of the Erasmus Program.
