Jan 2025“The Portrait of Penelope Delta” by Dimitra Papadima | Studio of the Municipal Theater | January 11, 2025 | Duration: 75′
A monologue with “many” faces. A poetic and human performance that reveals the darkness of Penelope Delta as a daughter, woman, artist, wife, mother, and lover — with details we may not have known until now and truths that have been forgotten over time.
The Portrait was written on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the author, who left her mark both in her art and in life, going against the conservatism of her time and the clichés of society.
On stage, Penelope Delta moves from her childhood to adolescence, with its first stirrings, to adulthood, marriage, the meeting with her secret lover, Ion Dragoumi, and ultimately to death.
She “converses” with her “invisible” co-stars, the people who marked her life — her parents, Stefanos Delta, and Ion Dragoumi. For the first time, she confesses what she never dared to say, accuses everyone, herself, and ultimately life itself.
