This year’s event will be held on Sunday, August 4th, in the bay of Paleokastritsa.

The Varkarola of Paleokastritsa is a thematic event that beautifully reenacts the arrival of Odysseus on the Island of the Phaeacians after his long journey. Struck by Poseidon’s wrath, Odysseus is shipwrecked on Corfu, where he is found by Nausicaa, daughter of King Alcinous, and the Phaeacians help him return to his homeland.

Boats, floating platforms, majorettes, dancers, actors, and fireworks bring the myth to life, accompanied by the compositions of Vangelis Papathanasiou.

Musicians, dancers, majorettes, divers, philharmonics, fireworks, and natural beauty create a spectacular scene, with the outcome being impressive every year.

The first Varkarola in Paleokastritsa took place in 1997, organized by the then-community of Lakones with president Spiros Michalas, in collaboration with the Scuba Diving Center, the Holy Monastery of Panagia Paleokastritsa, and the participation of local boatmen and other local entities.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, August 4th, in the bay of Paleokastritsa.
