4 Nov 2023In 2023, the International Festival of Corfu dedicates itself to the writer Tito Patrikios, to Balkan Literature, and to individual books. For a week, from Monday, October 30th, to Wednesday, November 1st, and from Thursday, November 2nd, to Saturday, November 4th, Corfu is transformed into the Island of Books with two festivals, an ambitious program, and many significant events. All events will take place at the Ionian Parliament at 19:00.
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd
An homage to the 100 years since the birth of Alkis Zei, with the participation of authors who have come to the island. Tasoula Tsilimeni, the director of the Museum of Children’s Literature, who is preparing an exhibition and conference on Zei, will speak and moderate. The professor at the University of Geneva and poet Valia Tsaita will also participate online.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd
Presentation of the novel “Ieremiada” by Chloë Koutsoubeli, published by Estia. Excerpts will be read by actress Maria Oikonomou. “Music in the Pages of Books”: Author Minas Vidiadis presents his book “A Day with Mozart,” which is also presented in theatrical form at the Athens Concert Hall until Christmas. Furthermore, the professor at the Ionian University, Zoe Dionysiou, presents her book “A Journey into Rebetiko for Children and Adults,” co-authored with Gail Holst-Warhaft. Eugenia Zagoura, an educator and President of the Panhellenic Network for Theater in Education, discusses the play “The Bouzouki,” based on the book. Students from the Department of Music Studies at the Ionian University share their experiences and songs from the play.
PARALLEL EVENT: At noon, the writers will visit the exhibition at the Old Fortress, which is dedicated to the great Corfiote author Konstantinos Theotokis, titled “Eternal Word.”
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4th
“The Greek Literature in the Balkans: Reality and Perspectives”: Two translators and prominent authors, Ismini Randulovic from Serbia and Angela Bratu from Romania, discuss the current landscape and future of books in the Balkan countries with Chloe Koutsoubeli, the Vice President of the Association of Authors Thessaloniki.
