The 11th “CORFU OLD TOWN TRAIL” is announced to take place on September 21, 2024, co-organized by the Municipality of Central Corfu, the Ionian Islands Region, and the Corfu Mountain Trail.

This is the city edition, a race held annually at the end of the tourist season (September-October) with distances of 14 km and 7 km. As part of these races, there will also be a parent-child race.

The race starts at Liston Square and follows a route passing through both of Corfu’s fortresses and the two palaces (St. Michael & St. George and Mon Repos).

Specifically, after the start, the race passes through the Plakada tou Agiou, traverses Nikiforou Theotoki Street, and leads us to the hill of the New Fortress, continuing within the fortified section of the old town. It passes the well-known Kardelakos with the Jewish Quarter on the left, heading towards the Town Hall (San Giacomo), the Duomo (Catholic Cathedral), and the historic neighborhood of Porta Remounda with its many alleyways (kantounia).

Next is the Paleopolis, where the worship center of ancient Corfu is located. In this historic area, we will also see the old mansion of the British Commissioner Adams (Frederick Adam), later (after the union) granted to King George I and now a museum. We return via the wide sidewalk of Garitsa Bay with its characteristic stones by the sea (Kourtelatsa) and enter the Old Fortress, the Venetian masterpiece.

After touring inside, we follow the Bosketto, pass through the Garden of the People, the colonnade of the Palaces, the Campiello, the Kremasti with the Venetian Well, and finally the Pinia, the old haunt of the pinyatores. After this labyrinthine route among UNESCO World Heritage monuments, we finish at the famous Liston, the landmark of the historic center of the city.

Approximately 500 athletes participate each year, with the first event held in 2013.
