Just twenty kilometers from the city of Corfu there is a beautiful traditional village, Ano Pavliana, built on the slopes of the homonymous mountain Pavliana.
Its neighboring villages, Kato Pavliana, Pentati, Kato Garounas and Agios Matheos have equally important elements from the tradition of the island to the architecture and history.
Old mansions built of stone, roofs with Byzantine tiles, warehouses called with Corfitot names like “katogia”, “ognistres”,”boyiates”, “asvestokamina” are some of characteristic parts and tools that houses had in the past. Nowadays still can be found around the area.
Ano Pavliana is located near the beaches of Paramonas and Agios Nikolaos, while it has no tourist infrastructures.
On the mountain Ano Pavliana there is Panagia Odigitria, a beautiful small church, surrounded by trees and plant, while reaching the place will lead you to an incredable view of the whole area.
Also, worth mentioning is the Holy Monastery of Profitis Ilias and Estavromenos, with a verdant route and a beautiful view.

Locals are known for their love of arts, dance, song and handmade traditional costumes. In the past they had two different costumes, an everyday costume and the festive one.
Women wore a “roketo”, a cotton cloth that looked like a nightgown and was placed underneath their clothes, as well as a white “bolia” a cloth that looked like a long cotton handkerchief, while men’s costume had the characteristic “vraka” linen or cotton and the “tritsa” a kind of straw hat.
Many events and customs take place every year in the area. The Cultural Association of Ano Pavliana, the Agricultural Association of Ano and Kato Pavliana as well as the Cultural Association of Agios Dimitrios, which bears the name of the Saint to whom the village church is dedicated, are very active, gathering a lot of people with the purpose to keep the traditions alive and show their love for the environment and the villages in Corfu.
